Geoquip Seehorn + GMR602

Vessel introduction

Converted in 2015 to an integrated geotechnical site investigation vessel, Geoquip Seehorn is a DP2 vessel designed to safely and efficiently deliver shallow and mid-water geotechnical investigations. The vessel is configured to support a combination of borehole drilling, seabed CPT and high-quality coring operations.

With an oversized, heave compensated GMR602 drilling rig installed over the midship moonpool, Geoquip Seehorn offers exceptional versatility. The vessel is particularly well suited to projects requiring frequent switching between drilling and seabed testing, as well as specialist coring in variable ground conditions.

DP class DP2 – Class 2 Dynamic Positioning
LOA x breadth 83.5 m x 18.0 m
Water + borehole depth 350 m
Heave compensation 4 m
Moonpool 5.2 m x 4.8 m
Seabed CPT capability Integrated 20 t system
Coring Geobore S piggyback coring

Geoquip Seehorn is equipped with Geoquip Marine’s heave compensated GMR602 drilling rig, capable of handling combined water and borehole depths of up to 350 m. The rig is fully instrumented for real-time monitoring of drilling parameters and supports a wide range of wireline sampling, coring and in situ testing tools.

The oversized single derrick design enables safe operation of specialist coring systems, including Geobore S piggyback coring, alongside conventional wireline coring and sampling techniques.

The vessel is fitted with a dedicated offshore soil and rock testing laboratory, enabling real-time sample classification and strength assessment during offshore operations. This supports on-board engineering input and optimisation of borehole progress as data is acquired.

Routine sample handling, photography, classification and secure storage are undertaken offshore, with samples maintained in a temperature-controlled environment prior to transfer to onshore laboratories where required.

Geoquip Seehorn features a fully integrated 20-tonne seabed CPT system, allowing efficient execution of in situ testing programmes in shallow and mid-water depths. Deep push PCPT operations can be carried out with casing to maximise achievable penetration depths.

Accurate station keeping is maintained using a Kongsberg Simrad DP system with multiple reference inputs, ensuring precise deployment and tracking of seabed equipment throughout operations.
